Frequently Asked Questions
1What is a Fire Risk Assessment?
A Fire Risk Assessment is a legal requirement that involves a careful look at your premises and the people who use them, from a fire prevention perspective. It’s about understanding the potential risks, then improving your fire safety precautions to keep people safe.
2Legal responsibilities-Who needs a Fire Risk Assessment/Why do it?
It is a legal requirement for all premises (other than those occupied as single private dwellings, or those with fewer than five employees) to have a written fire risk assessment under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. If you are responsible for a building, you need to make sure a suitably competent person completes a Fire Risk Assessment. It is your duty to identify fire risks and hazards in your premises and take appropriate action.
3Who is the Responsible Person?
The Fire Safety Order defines the Responsible Person as anyone who has control or has a degree of control over certain areas within the premises. This could be the owner, employer or occupier.
4Who is responsible for conducting a Fire Risk Assessment?
The ‘responsible person’ can enlist the help of other persons who have the necessary experience or skills to carry out part or all of the risk assessment for you. This ‘competent’ person (this can be a current employee with knowledge of safety and company working practices or this can be a Fire Safety consultant) does not have to be an expert to assist the ‘responsible person’, but they need to have sufficient experience / training with regard to the problems they are advising on.
5When should the Fire Risk Assessment be reviewed?
Reviews can vary from 12-36 months depending on a variety of factors pertaining to the individual property and occupancy. As part of our service, we will inform our clients two months prior to the Fire Risk Assessment expiry date.
6How much does a Fire Risk Assessment cost?
The cost of a Fire Risk Assessment is based on how complex the building is, the size and the business process. We will guarantee our price to be competitive with no hidden fees. Discounts will be applied for multiple properties and returning clients who chose to have their Fire Risk Assessment reviewed through PW Fire Safety Services.
7How long does the visit last?
This depends on the size of the building but typically 1-3 hours.
8What does the assessor do during the visit?
Our assessor walks around the premises and takes time getting to understand your business. They will look at all safety aspects and regulatory requirements before compiling a detailed report.
9Does the assessment disrupt my business?
No, but the assessor does need to spend some time with the "Responsible Person" and have access to all areas.
10What do I get at the end of the Fire Risk Assessment?
You will receive a PDF document detailing all of the findings and a list of recommendations.
11Are you fully insured?
PW Fire Safety Services is a registered company and possesses all the necessary Public Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurances.
